Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC)
VICENTE SOTTO MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER (VSMMC) is a general, tertiary Medical Center; teaching/training medical facility under the Department of Health (DOH) and owned by the Philippine Government. Its operation started as early as 1911 as Hospital Del Sur. It was formally established on April 11, 1913 and the name was changed to Southem Islands Hospital. With only 30 beds at its inception, it grew to 350 beds when it was upgraded to a Medical Center in 1984.
Through the Republic Act 7528 approved in 1992, the name was officially changed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. Shortly after this, another law was approved increasing the bed capacity to 400. Today, VSMMC is authorized for operation of 800 beds.
Training and research is priority at VSMMC with resident physicians conducting research every year and a requirement for promotion. Eighty percent of the scientific papers are routinely presented or published in scientific forums.
Being under the Department of Health, VSMMC is a leading hospital in the Philippines with the highest patient flow and networking with different government and private hospitals.
