Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) / (BDS)
Dental education in Philippines comprises of a 5 years (1 year preparatory; 4 year proper) course in which the graduates are awarded the degree “Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D)”. DMD is equivalent to BDS in Nepal. Dentists can specialize further by pursuing 3 years of study for their Master’s degree at the College of dentistry in MCU.
Master of Dental Surgery (MDS)
A MDS degree is a postgraduate awarded following the satisfactory completion of a prescribed course of study and research related to dental practice. A MDS degree indicates that an individual has:

Completed a series of dental courses related to a specific specialty.

Proven that he or she has the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the procedures related to that specialty.
Manila Central University offers MDS-equivalent degrees in Orthodontics and Periodontics. Postgraduate training is for 3 years in the concerned specialty. Degrees in Endodontics and Prosthodontics will be available from June, 2012 session.
